wondrous - the syringa tree

huge goal in life to see
a one woman play
(i was thinking vagina monologues)
but this hit the spot quite nicely (no dirty pun intended)

time is running out to see it
so no panic or anything
BUT GO!
she was lovely (she and the 24 other characters she played).
i won't say more because you need to go
and then we'll chat
ok?

p.s.-she is from regina (u of r). love local talent!

l.m. montgomery by jane urquhart

i have been spending
my spring afternoons
reading a beautifully written
(it flows like smooth honey)
biography of Canadian author
L.M. Montgomery
i was inspired to read it by a prof
who gave a brilliant lecture on the conundrums of people
and montgomery certainly fits the part

what is particularly fascinating about montgomery
is that her work was framed as young adult reading
a book of dreams for young girls (and boys)
yet
it was really an outlet for a miserable life
riddled with insomnia, depression, a mentally unstable husband,
unfulfilled children, death and the list goes on

so this is my challenge:
read this bio
then re-read all of her books
and see if you really get it this time.

here is a little something to get you going:

her death:

"Her body is at peace, has already accepted the verdict. But her mind is not as easy to subdue. Swinging back and forth between grief and rage, fear and crushing disappointment, it is like a compass needle trapped in a magnetic field."

rude boy

i heart rihanna
she is amazing
so is her video:

p.s.- i liked it even more when i saw someone posted this:

I'm not crazy about this video or this song.. She can look really cute when she wants to if she just wear her hair the right way and wear better clothes.. She's always wearing her pants and undergarments so damn high.. What? she's got stretch marks or something? Show your damn belly. That's sexy. Wearing your clothing high up like old people is not sexy.

now. if someone tells me that rihanna is not
mind-blowingly sexy in this video
i call bullshit

there is more to being a beautiful woman
than "good hair" and "good clothes"
and low rising bottoms
who knew?

alone

i am doing research on
natural cures for endometroisis
and this woman (who has endo)
writes poetry to help her cope
which i thought was really interesting
so i wanted to share one of her poems:

Alone
I want to cry, but my tears have all dried,
so I laugh an empty laugh,
Drowned in self-pity, I must live on.

Motivation nothing here,
but a glimmer of light calls to me hang on,
The pieces come together one at a time,
as I learn, I see the world with an open mind.

Now I know that I am alone,
I feel blinded and lead by the unknown.

I stare into the looking glass,
and gaze upon my own reflection,
I see a teenage girl,
no different from the rest,
just one dark secret,
or plague I guess,

I know that I could live and learn alone
but as the saying goes, "the more, the merrier"

To close myself in was wrong,
So I must live on.

the purity myth

please read this book
eye-opener to the whole notion of women's sexuality
god forbid that people begin to trust
and allow us to make decisions for our bodies

i won't say much.
because i really want you to read it

but here is a quote that earned a special place in my heart
(for all the wrong reasons)

"A real-life description to me would be a rape victim,
brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious.
She planned on saving her virginity until she was married.
She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bas as you can possibly make it,
and is impregnated"

Bill Napoli
Former South Dakota Senator, responding to a question about what kind of woman
should be allowed to have an abortion.

(i happen to think that his idea
is far too graphic
and perhaps he enjoyed this misogynistic scene
a little too much)

in summary:

if you aren't religious
sorry. you weren't raped and no abortion for you.
if you weren't a virgin before.
sorry. you weren't raped. and no abortion for you.
if you weren't almost killed
sorry. you weren't raped and no abortion for you.
and it continues

more importantly:

if you are a victim of sex trafficking
sorry. you weren't raped and no abortion for you.
if you were sold into prostitution by you parents
sorry. you weren't raped and no abortion for you.

dear bill napoli: you disgust me.

i enjoy this

anything to mock the
idiots (is that too harsh?) behind menstrual advertising

i am currently writing a paper
about menstruation advertisements
and how secretive they are
god forbid we mention
the words
menstruation, vagina, blood...etc

any ideas for the title of this paper?
let me know...!

enchantment

this is lovely.

do yourself a big big favour
and watch it
twice!

this is not a love letter

but it is a letter written with love

what would you say
if i told you

you're the one

it lingers on my tongue
like venom
would it suffocate you
or would you suck it in
let it swim in your mouth
and spit it back to me

i would say it
but fear is the cat
that holds my tongue

ramblings

they are expecting something brilliant
i have nothing to give.
i am gutted.

maybe this is getting old.
i sit.
you talk.
you speak of horrors
"they cut her open! found that fetus!
and killed it"
misogyny as its best.
nothing surprises me anymore.

how far will you go?

you have all the power
i have the nerve to take it
she has the right to embody it
and they have the sense to recognize
that it is all an allusion

eating in the light of the moon

by Anita A Johnston

ok.
it is slightly hippy with feminist undertones.
how could i not enjoy it?
but i do think there is major potential for all of you to enjoy too.
i have done my fair share of research on disordered patterns but this book
takes a whole new spin

it is a breath of fresh feminist hippy air!

i love that she talks about women loathing their feminine body
their curves and their periods
and developing a disorder that straightens their bodies
(straight like a phallus)
(no period like a man)
hmmm....
power=being a man?
apparently so.

really interesting take on it.

i also love how she discusses
the "time before"
when the goddess ruled life
and women were considered wicked awesome

great book.
if you have a disorder.
or some kind of distorted feelings toward food.
and even if you don't!

i feel

exhausted. restless, even.

i think i am going to need a little something to get me through the week
i have already worked my way through a couple lattes, a mushroom gravy and goat cheese poutine and a mini container of coconut chocolate icecream
but im selfish.
and want more.
i want....
SPRING

please tell me it just around the corner
because nothing is better then a long walk
with lots of fresh air
and some flowers just about to bloom
and awesome things like this

o. spring.

chalk pots!

vintage bug lamps

bright and cheery paintings

spoon markers....how....freakin....adorable..

and.
i simply cannot make it through spring without

these
fingerless gloves
it's happening

hello?

is anyone out there....
or am i talking to myself again?

i need a serious talk with my champagne

it is one of those days
i am ill with a common cold
and confined to my house
with only my thoughts
and cuddles.
(she is making me sneeze a little
so i am trying to keep my distance
without offending her, of course)

sigh...
i can almost guess how the fresh air tastes
but the actual experience
will have to wait for another day...

thus.
one of many songs that lifts my spirits in times like this...

erin mccarley- pony
she rocks. so youtube her!
