hamilton

i walked 5 blocks
in a really rough neighbourhood
in shoes that beckon blisters
for my love of vegetables.

it may seem like madness.
but i really, really needed some veg.
i have been travelling for two whole days
and veg food is not so easy to come by
in airports, hotels and surrounding areas.

i maxed out on bread and cheese
and desperately needed food
that had a direct connection to the ground
at some point.

so off i went
to stand in awe at the farmers market
it was amazing.
rows of fresh cheese
french-inspired pastries
flowers
fresh bread
jam and jellies
and my beloved vegetables.

i returned with two very large purple carrots
grown by two very awesome ladies.
an apple*.
some organic lettuce seeds for my garden.
a homemade cinnamon bun
un peu de chevre (a little bit of goat cheese)
and some organic snap pees.
satisfied?
oh yes.

it was utopic, really.
i breezed through this neighbourhood
with utter lightness
for only an hour earlier
i had finished what i came to hamilton to tackle.

i came here for an interview

for the chance to be accepted into
the mcmasters midwifery program

there i stood
with nothing but nerves
and a fabulous vintage belt
chatting with amazing women
who have come from all across globe
to interview as well.

minutes later
we commence
we read quick
think quicker
and bounce around a hallway
to plead our case.

after an hour and twenty minutes of pure chaos.
we are done.
plucked.
gutted.
and exhausted.

results for the interview are pending.
results for the produce? my tummy is totally content and would like some more.
but
my feet think otherwise!
off to nurse my blisters.
