emily haines

what can i say?
i adore her.

happy saturday!

as blunt as it gets

i have been seeing images all over the city for quite some time
and last week
when i saw a huge (HUGE) poster print out at a bus stop
i thought
enough is enough.

Missing Woman.
anyone in the regina area probably knows who i am referring to
and i am absolutely not saying that she is not a valuable person
of course she is
i am only saying
so are they

i think that this scenario
really speaks to the racism that oozes in our society
what do you think?

planned parenthood

well.
i spent my reading week
reading fun and funny facts
about sexual health
these fun facts are now in a slideshow
(go to planned parenthood and see it in their waiting room
it is a brilliant work of art!)

why fun and funny?
because.
sexual health is far too taboo these days.
it need not be!
our goal was to make it interesting and captivating
for all of the planned parenthood-ers in the city
(super diverse group=super diverse slideshow)
here are some tidbits i learnt :

(_!_) = bum emoticon
(o)(o) = boob emoticon (also known as bazoombas, baby pillows, headlights, etc)
tantra practitioners can reach male orgasm by using only vagina MUSCLES to please the penis (unreal, right?)
riding the red cotton pony=i have my period
vasectomies are not effective right away - you need to use another form of contraception till all the sperm empties out
persvatif= condom in french
eroticalia=sounds or talk during sex
condoms can be put on with a mouth (supposedly)
genophobia=fear of sex. (really??)
and the list goes on....and on....

plenty of giggles coming from "the hole"
(the space we took over as our office for the week)
(it sounds horrendous but it is quite charming...after you get to know it!)
and majah thanks to the women i worked with
you all kick (_!_)

homage to my hips

these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.
they don't fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top

i would greatly enjoy reading any of these books
but the library is a no go

i would be willing to do some kind of book barter...
we'll talk.

dream

it is much too evil
to write
i beg my hand to stop
i don't want to relive it
but it is irrelevant
my feelings are irrelevant

a victorian house
crammed to the brim
with victorian values
catholicism burns my fingertips
as i trace the wallpaper and
scurry across the floor
i try to go unnoticed
deeply wishing they will
not care that i never pray
to Him.
they do.
they are angered.
so angered.
i am forced into eternal darkness
it's cold
and dark
and i am almost sure
someone is watching me

sunlight
i'm outside
placing the pieces of
someones life back together
they fit perfectly
mine are jagged
misshaped
i have no choice
but to listen
you're wrong.

a disconnected phone call
with earth shattering news
he is dead.
no.
dying.
cannot be seen, only heard.
unwilling.
clinging.
hanging by a small
flexible, wavering
thread.

we listen
to the pleas.
to the promises.
to the unborn children
who have already secured a place in his heart

wake up.

(i'm actually a pretty cheery person...i promise)
(my dreams are just dark and deep and vibrant)
(i cannot help it)
(even if i could, would i change?)
no.

sweet dreams

pomplamoose!

they rock!

brighten your day....
here!

and here's some fun videos for you to watch.
rock out.

love the beyonce cover

epic fail

this blows.
axe (arguably the most sexist company)
is owned by the same people (unilever)
as dove (attempting to "empower" women through using "everyday kind of women" in their advertisements but are using these everyday kind of women models to sell cellulite cream......)
contradiction, much?

sigh.
here are some visual aids to get my point across
anyone else uber disappointed?

dear dove:
so close.
please try again.

please

don't read this...

a lovely little book
encouraging women to settle
because our clocks are ticking away..
gag...
i am just wondering how this even got published?

read this instead

brilliant book documentating the evolution (if you will)
of the period.
fantastic.
